Preparing for Your Portrait or Headshot Session

  1. Stick to your normal beauty routine and products so you're not surprised by unexpected effects or reactions on the day of your photoshoot.

  2. Pick out clothes that fit you well, and in which you feel comfortable and confident. This will translate in front of the camera.

  3. Bring a few options - more formal, more casual, different accessories - so we can determine the look that is most flattering and fitting for your role. Select items that we can mix/match or layer with different colors.

  4. Look for attire that includes hues that match or highlight your eye and/or hair coloring; it can be very complimentary. In general, it’s best to avoid wardrobe with crazy prints and patterns, or very conspicuous logos or words.

  5. Make sure your clothes are pressed or ironed as appropriate to appear your sharpest.

  6. Gentlemen: If you’re considering a hair cut, I recommend scheduling your appointment no later than a week from our session together. A recent hair cut (a few days beforehand) can feel a bit severe on camera.

  7. Ladies: Bring your make up kit to do any touch ups before your session.

  8. Hydrate as much as possible the week before your session. It's good for your health and your skin will thank you!

  9. Get a good night's sleep if possible.

What to Expect During the Photo Shoot

I’ve photographed many people who are not comfortable in front of the camera. I put them at ease by talking through the process, guiding them with poses, and getting their feedback on images as we take them. I work with my subjects to successfully capture what they want to convey in their portraits.
